We have CORN!!!!

It's that time again! Our family grows lots and lots of corn every year. Creaming corn is a family tradition for us. I have such fond memories of the entire process of "putting up corn" with my Granny. It's a lot of work, but so worth it. Picking ,shucking, silking, lots of rinsing, grating, blanching and bagging it!! During the entire process I am constantly thinking of Granny. Remembering the hot summers on her farm, the smell of her kitchen and drinking sweet tea to stay cool. We always had work to do and at times it seemed neverending,  but those memories will stay with me forever. For me its a sentimental time that I enjoy dearly, although exhausting. I would give anything to be able to spend just one more summer with her!! This week my twin brother and I spent the afternoon picking corn. This is our second year doing so and I'm sure this will be a yearly thing for us. A time that we both enjoy together. Lots of laughs, good chats with cousins, a few beers and we took some cute pictures too!!  I made a quick trip to the cemetary to visit Granny's grave. Just to say hi and tell her how much I miss her. I know she is proud that we still cream corn just like her!!

Spring time at the Green House

We have been busy planting tomatoes, peppers and flowers, and filling the bird feeders. Recently we added a homemade clothesline to our backyard. I am so in love with it!! Our house is surrounded with pines...and that's just what we used.  I told John of my idea and within 2 hours it was done!! Thankful for his handyman skills. And the best part is NO money was spent!! Our next project?? I want 2 hens. Now to build a chicken coop.... I have such fond memories of growing up with chickens. I can hardly wait for fresh eggs.
John brought these home one afternoon
